Witch Queen is a rich fantasy perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Graceling and The Girl of Fire and Thorns.

ELENA SURVIVED THE GREAT RACE and the clutches of the high priests, but at a cost. The Heart of Arcania, the most powerful magical stone in the land is now in the hands of the wicked priests. But worse—Jon is captured. The black blight is a scar on the world, infecting everything with its black magic, festering until no living thing can endure, and Elena might be the only key to stopping it. She quickly finds herself thrust into a mystery that could shake her world apart…and potentially unleash a greater evil.

I like the story but it has serious issues. The first person point of view just doesn’t flow and gets stuck in too much telling and not enough showing/just too much expository narration. The protagonist, Elena, also calmly describes events while she’s getting beat up, skewered, bled to death, bad guys surrounding her, and monsters setting out to eat her loved ones. POV just does not work. Instead of freaking out, she is telling us “I’m freaking out.” While facing imminent death from multiple sources, she’s calmly narrating histories, contemplating people’s feelings, or describing how much it stinks. She should be FREAKING OUT, not taking pause to fill us in! She is supposed to be a great fighter with magical weaponry prowess but she’s constantly losing until she barely wins while her “human” helpers are getting by fine. Very aggravating and it got beyond annoying.

I almost gave up, but the story is intriguing, and I did find myself wanting to find out how it all worked out, so I purchased all three books. I guess I’m glad I did. Divided Realms is okay; not awful but not great.

BTW: The title calls it the Divided Realms Series, but Book 3 does have an ending so it is a trilogy. It’s not a story with two sequels; it’s one story over three books, so if you start with Book 1, you’ll need to buy all three to get to an ending.

Witch Queen Divided Realms Series Book 2 eBook Kim Richardson Reviews

I'm glad I purchased this book. Many mysteries of the story started to unfold and you definitely learn a lot more about the characters. I love Elena's determination even though their situation seems bleak and hopeless at times. I can hardly wait for the new book in the series!
Great opening, story grabs ya, and then....it's almost like the author had been asked to extend her book by writing more. And by more I mean repeating stuff every few pages. You get to hear conversation when they should be preparing for battle. By the time I go to the third book, I was skipping entire chapters and I still knew what was going on.
Great followup to the first book. I am hoping that the next will shed some more light on the pasts of some new characters introduced in this second book. I couldn't put it down as I had to know what was in store for Elena.
I stumbled upon this series by accident. It am so glad I did. The characters are believable and the action is constant without being repetitive. I find it difficult to put it down.
Engaging, vivid and emotional installment has Elena fighting dark forces, prejudice, loneliness, evil king and Queen to save her world and her love, Jon. Hardship, betrayal, fights with magic wielders were heart stopping. On to the next installment.
I am fully enjoying this series. I wasn't sure at first, but of course it's all about knowing who the players are. Now, that Elena has proven herself worthy, she's on her way, with her army of witches to fight The foulest of evil. So ready for book 3. Highly recommend this book.
I read the first of the series a while ago and didn't have the money at the time to buy any new books. I ended up forgetting about this series for a couple months and then I never came across the first book in my kindle 2 days ago. I quickly reread it and immediately bought this, the second book, and finished it in a day. So, now I have this amazing story bouncing around in my head and I am going crazy waiting to continue reading. The one night my husband wants to cuddle on the couch and just want to read!
